We have been a Kidsafe school for some time - but what does this mean?

Kidsafe UK specialises in delivering child protection/safeguarding programmes to children and young people from Early Years Foundation Stage through to Secondary School. At Vickerstown Primary School Mrs M Phizacklea, Head Teacher and Mrs K Robinson, School Counsellor are both Kidsafe trained Tutors and deliver the programme throughout the year to all classes.

The programme is delivered through series of child centred lessons, using age appropriate language, games and discussion activities all with the help of KS the Monkey Puppet.

The programme covers topics such as Talking to Trusted Adults, Yukky Feelings, Bullying, Keeping Safe Online, Computer Safety, including gaming ratings and DVD/Films ratings and Personal Safety, Cyber Bullying. The lessons are fun and interactive and include active participation form children using games, singing, whole class and small group discussion. The learning from the programme gives children the skills to recognise the signs of abusive or potentially harmful situations, and gives them the strategies to have the confidence and self-worth to know what to do to keep themselves safe, including knowing that "They can say no, walk away and tell a trusted Grown up.”

Kidsafe UK Programme equips children with effective skills to deal with unsafe situations. Kidsafe enables children to value themselves and others to make wise and healthy choices and decisions in their lives, aiming to protect, educate and empower children without shattering their innocence.
